A lesson from my students

Today in one of the english classes that I’m teaching, two of ‘my’ girls presented their speeches. The first talked about someone who influenced her. The second talked about her hero. The someone was the same for both: Jesus Christ. As they went on, they talked about what their hero had taught them. To love and to be worth of being loved. Surprisingly, these two 16 year olds did not find a particular importance in the institution of the church. Thank God! In the discussion that followed they critisised the pope’s position on condoms, particularly after his recent comments while visiting Africa. For them, what is important are the teachings about love. Two beautiful articulated girls with their heads standing high above their shoulders.

I decided not to tell them about Zeitgeist, the movie.
